Tale of three cities

Showing some nice class, the Red Sox organization took out a full page ad in the St. Louis Post Dispatch Tuesday, thanking the Cardinals and the city of St. Louis for being a worthy opponent and host team during the World Series.

The ad featured a picture of two young boys at a game, one in Cardinals gear and one in Sox gear:

The ad was titled: From one great baseball town to another and was signed by Red Sox principal owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner and president/chief executive officer Larry Lucchino. Text of the ad in full:

"On behalf of our partners and the entire Red Sox organization, thank you St. Louis. The warm Midwestern welcome you extended to our team and our fans during this year's hard-fought World Series is truly appreciated. Your region, its people, and the entire Cardinals organization represent everything that's great about baseball.

"We share the same colors and rich, storied baseball history that stretches from Musial and Williams, to Molina and Pedroia. We're both home to the most loyal, passionate fans in the game. And the four World Series in which we've gone head-to-head are still etched in the memories of those who love our sport.

"So we tip our hats to each and every one of you. We look forward to seeing you again next August. Let's hope that it's just a prelude to meeting again in October."

That seems like some good sportmanship to me right there. But . . .

In the sport section of today's Tampa Bay Times a sidebar on the front page mentioned the ad with the title -- One hopes they're not rubbing it in. Seriously?! Did you assholes even read the ad? Like I said in the recap post about the Series, this is why I have a hard time rooting for my home town team. We may just have the douchiest sports writers in the country down here. And their horseshit homerism makes me dislike the team more with every nasty, whiny, cry-baby article they spit out.

Go Sox!
